Comprehensive Rehab Programs

The Abbey offers four comprehensive short-term rehab programs for residents: occupational, physical, speech, and respiratory. We focus on overall health and wellness while the patient takes the time they need to recover.

Short-term rehabilitation at Abbey Senior Health meets the needs of patients who:

  • Are recovering from a serious injury, illness, or surgery (such as joint replacement, stroke, neurological conditions, brain and spinal cord injuries, or general debility)

  • Require 24-hour nursing care to recover fully

  • Would benefit from intensive physical rehabilitation

  • We develop personalized occupational therapy programs that assist residents with developing, maintaining, or recovering the skills needed to accomplish daily tasks.

Occupational therapists (OTs) emphasize what recovering seniors can do rather than focusing on their inabilities. Our occupational therapy programs aim to help residents overcome physical limitations, allowing them to live fulfilling lives.

  • Physical therapy can help older adults following an injury or illness and prevent functional decline. Our physical therapists (PTs) develop customized plans for each resident relative to their needs. We offer several programs, ranging from orthopedic to cardiopulmonary. Abbey Senior Health’s PTs use various methods, like manual therapy and strength training, to restore residents’ function.

  • Our speech therapy programs assist seniors in increasing their verbal communication skills and cognitive abilities. Older adults with difficulty swallowing can also benefit from speech therapy, as they learn techniques for comfortable eating.

In situations where complete speech restoration is impossible, our speech therapists teach residents other methods of communication. We customize each plan to the individual, allowing them to improve their ability to vocalize needs and wants.

  • Most rehab centers do not offer respiratory therapy, but Abbey Senior Health considers it a top priority. As seniors age, they become more susceptible to developing respiratory conditions from their weakened immune systems.

Our respiratory therapists teach residents how to manage illnesses, such as lung cancer or pneumonia, to prevent secondary issues from arising. The main goal of our respiratory therapy programs is to reduce the number of hospital readmissions.
