Frequently Asked Questions

Who is assisted living for?

Seniors who wish to maintain their independence but require additional support with daily tasks can greatly benefit from assisted living. Offering the same social activities and amenities as independent living, assisted living provides an individualized care plan specific to each resident’s needs. Whether they require assistance with medication, dressing, grooming, bathing, or another daily activity, a staff member is there to help. Assisted living residents receive continuous care and support in addition to services such as housekeeping, laundry, and nutritious meals. Seniors residing in our new assisted living community, the Abbey Cottage, enjoy care when they need it, and freedom when they don’t.

How do I choose the best option?

The best senior living option for you is the one where your needs are met. Senior living options range in the level of care provided, with independent living offering the least assistance, and skilled nursing the most. At Abbey Senior Health, we offer a variety of care options so that seniors can age in place. As needs change, so do the services we provide. Seniors and their families don’t have to worry about searching for a new community – rather, our dedicated staff adapts the services to meet their new needs. For instance, residents can transition from our Villa Theresa Apartments to the Abbey Cottage with no issue.

For more information on which option is right for you, please give us a call at (636) 240-5754.

How much does senior care cost?

Several factors are at play when determining the cost of senior living, such as care level, living arrangements, and geographical location. Generally speaking, seniors who require greater amounts of care and support will likely pay a bit more than those who don’t. However, each option we offer includes state-of-the-art services, amenities, and social opportunities aimed to provide a rich, fulfilling life. For more information, give us a call at (636) 240-5754 to discuss your needs.

Which managed care insurance do you accept?

In addition to traditional Medicare, we are in contract with Aetna, Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, Essence and Medica (formally known as Well First.)

What is skilled nursing?

Skilled nursing provides high-level medical care and interventions by licensed medical professionals. Available either as short-term rehabilitation after a hospital stay or long-term for those with chronic conditions, skilled nursing offers around-the-clock care. Whether residents need medical intervention for IV medication, wound care, injections, therapies, or vital sign monitoring, our skilled nursing programs are tailored to them. Not only do our medical professionals provide the necessary assistance, but they also create personalized Plans of Care for each senior. Residents live in private or semi-private rooms, and depending on their level of care needs, participate in community activities, as well. At Abbey Senior Health, not only do we support seniors physically, but we also strive to care for their mental and spiritual well-being.

What levels of care do you offer?

We pride ourselves on our age in place community. Villa Theresa is Independent Living, Abbey Cottage is Assisted Living, Abbey Senior Health is Skilled Nursing with Rehabilitation and Long-Term Care.

What if I go home from the hospital and realize that I was not ready and would benefit from an inpatient rehab stay at Abbey Senior Health. Is it too late?

Traditional Medicare gives 30 days after a 3-midnight inpatient hospital stay to admit to a rehab community.  Managed Care would need authorization prior to admission from their insurance company. Usually, the primary care provider would need to write an order for therapy.

Are there activities? Can family join?

We have a full activity calendar and family is always welcome. Bingo, Happy Hour, Live Music, Pet Therapy, Exercise Class, Spiritual Services including Mass are just some of the things we offer. Please check out our Activity Calendar for more information.

How will I know my loved one’s progress?

After residents have settled for a few days, our Social Services Director will reach out to set up a care plan with nursing, dietary and therapy to discuss any concerns, progress and goals before discharge. Our Rehab Director, Rehab Nursing Manager, and social workers are all available to help with any questions and concerns at any time.

Does Insurance Cover the cost?

For a rehab stay, traditional Medicare will typically cover after a three-night inpatient stay in hospital for up to 20 days. After 20 days, there is a co-pay that would be out-of-pocket or picked up by secondary insurance. Managed-Care Insurance will need authorization prior to the stay and can take two to three days to obtain. Medical Insurance does not cover Independent, Assisted Living or Long-Term Care. Long-term Care insurance may apply for Assisted Living and Long-term Care.

How long will my rehab stay last?

Everyone is different. Some may need a couple weeks and some may need more. The aim of our rehabilitation therapy services is to help you recover as quickly as possible and give you the tools you need to succeed in your normal lifestyle.

Can I have visitors?

Absolutely! A friendly face is at our front desk from 8am to 8pm every day. If you need to come in before or after, there is an after-hours doorbell at the main entrance or you can call the nursing station to make arrangements.

Can I reserve a room for a family gathering?

Yes, we have several spacious places that are perfect for parties, holidays and gatherings. Our outdoor tent is available from Spring to Fall.
